The Mosaics Group hosted the afternoon tea at the lively gathering of the monthly members meeting on Saturday 9th of July 2011.

Lyn Reid (President) opened the meeting - Five new members were welcomed to our groups.

News that the long awaited Kiln has arrived and been installed was appreciated by the pottery and sculpting groups.  The kiln has had several test runs in preparation for the line-up of fine-looking pieces to be fired. The firing is being ably attended to by  one of the carers of the kiln Val Ransom (pottery group tutor and safety officer).

We have a new Publicity Officer Elizabeth Hillman who will endeavour to keep everyone updated with all the activities and proceedings of the Art and Craft Centre.

Amongst a fulsome agenda here are some interesting dates to keep in mind:
‘Galleries in the Garden Winter Warmer’ at Tea Gardens Hotel on 29th of July - 5:30 to 7pm. Lioness Club and Ella’s Boutique are holding a Spring Fashion Parade 13th of September.
‘Walk on the Wild Side’ 17th of September.
The ‘Stroud Quilt and Craft Interlude’ on the 10th and 11th of September.
The ‘Myall River Festival’ on Saturday 29th of September.

Please remember the Community Art and Craft Centre is open from 10am to 4pm and is a cosy place where you can call in have a chat and view cleverly crafted handmade items for a unique gift for family and friends.

Some of these works are Paintings, Folk Art, Woodwork, Leatherwork, Sculptures, Pottery, Quilts, Lead Lighting, Needlework, Mosaics and so much more. You may find you are inspired to join one of the groups.

The next general meeting will be held on Saturday 13th of August at 2pm.

THE NEW KILN:

Has arrived and is now installed - The first full load of pottery was successfully fired last week and we are now working our way through the backlog of sculpture pieces from the workshops

PETS:

There have been incidents when some dogs have been brought into the centre with less than desirable supervision.

We have now received a disturbing written report on an incident in the shop where a visitor brought to the attention of the person working there, ‘that there were faeces in the corner of the front window’. Also, there were other customers in the shop along with another member who witnessed this incident.

Unfortunately, due to this incident, the Committee, have decided “THAT NO DOGS ARE ALLOWED IN THE SHOP OR CLASS ROOMS.” They can be left on the verandah with responsible supervision.

Myall Art & Craft Centre - 2009

After the Victorian bushfires in February when so many people lost so much, the suggestions was made that something people of this area could do was presented to the Centre.

As a result in March members of the community were invited to participate, on Saturdays, to make quilts for bush fire victims.

The Tea Gardens/ Hawks Nest Lioness’s, Myall Coast Veterans, Tea Gardens Women’s Bowls, as well as private donations, provided funding that went towards batting and backing. Materials were donated by community members with stash for quilt fronts donated by participants.

Since March about fifteen people have been giving their time and skills to work on the twenty quilts that have been started with Barbara Travis providing guidance from her considerable experience. The results are impressive.

The intention is to complete the works by August so they will be available for display at the MCACC biannual quilt show in October. The quilts will be then be sent to contacts in Victoria for distribution.

It is proving to be a happy, sharing of skills, ideas, materials and the love of quilting with a result that is going to help others.
